Current Teacher Recruitment System
At present, the teacher recruitment process in Madhya Pradesh involves two stages:
Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) – This exam determines whether a candidate is eligible to apply for teaching posts.
Selection Examination – Candidates who qualify the eligibility test must appear for a separate recruitment exam conducted for final selection.
Because of this two-step process, candidates have to apply twice and prepare for two different exams.

Proposed New Recruitment System
The School Education Department has proposed a simplified system where only one exam will determine the recruitment of teachers. Under the proposed model:
Candidates will appear only for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
The merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the eligibility test.
No separate recruitment or selection examination will be required.
The proposal related to this change has reportedly been sent to the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (ESB) for further consideration.
Reason Behind the Proposed Change
The main objective of this reform is to make the recruitment process easier and faster. According to officials, the current system creates several difficulties for candidates.
Key reasons behind the change include:
Candidates have to pay fees and prepare for two different exams.
The recruitment process takes more time to complete.
The government wants to fill vacant teaching posts quickly in government schools.
Under the current system, candidates often pay around ₹500 for the eligibility test and another ₹500 for the selection exam, which increases the financial burden on applicants.
Validity of Eligibility Test Score
Another important aspect of the proposed system is the validity of TET scores.
Officials have suggested that:
The marks obtained in the eligibility test could remain valid for a lifetime.
Candidates will also have the option to reappear in the exam to improve their score in the future.
This will give candidates flexibility and reduce the pressure of repeated examinations.
Background of Teacher Eligibility Test
The Teacher Eligibility Test became mandatory after the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Since 2011, passing the eligibility test has been a basic requirement for becoming a teacher in government schools.
In the past, Madhya Pradesh had also conducted teacher recruitment through a single exam system in 2013 and 2018, but later the state returned to the two-exam format.
Impact on Teacher Aspirants
If the proposal is approved, thousands of teacher aspirants in Madhya Pradesh will benefit. The new system will:
Reduce the number of examinations
Save time and application costs
Make recruitment more transparent
Speed up the appointment of teachers in government schools
Currently, 5–6 lakh candidates appear in the Teacher Eligibility Test in the state, showing the large number of aspirants interested in teaching jobs.
The proposed reform in the teacher recruitment process could significantly simplify hiring in Madhya Pradesh’s education sector. If implemented, the system will allow candidates to become eligible and get selected through a single examination, making the recruitment process faster, cheaper, and more efficient.
However, the final decision will depend on approval from the concerned authorities. Once implemented, the new system could bring major relief to teacher aspirants across the state.
