SBI Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree/Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.

Candidates who are currently studying in the final year/semester of graduation may also apply provisionally. However, they must produce proof of passing the graduation examination on or before 31 December 2026, if provisionally selected.

Candidates applying for a particular State/UT must also have proficiency in the specified local language of that State/UT.

For example, candidates applying for Madhya Pradesh vacancies should have proficiency in Hindi.

SBI Clerk Selection Process 2026

The selection process consists of the following stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination
  2. Main Examination
  3. Local Language Proficiency Test (where applicable)

The Preliminary Examination is used to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not added to the final merit list. There will be 1/4th negative marking for every wrong answer in the objective tests.

Local Language Proficiency Test

Candidates who qualify for selection but have not studied the specified local language in Class 10th or 12th will have to appear for the Local Language Proficiency Test.

Candidates who have studied the specified local language in Class 10th or 12th and can produce the required mark sheet/certificate will not be required to appear for the language test.

Failure to qualify the required local language test will result in the candidate not being offered appointment.

SBI Clerk Salary 2026

The SBI Clerk pay scale is:

The official notification states that the starting Basic Pay is ₹26,730, which includes two advance increments admissible to graduates.
