What is UPSSSC PET?

The UPSSSC Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) is a qualifying examination conducted by UPSSSC for recruitment to various Group C posts.

Candidates who qualify PET can become eligible to apply for the Main Examinations conducted by the Commission for different posts, subject to the educational qualification and other requirements prescribed in the respective recruitment notifications.

UPSSSC PET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed High School (Class 10th) or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or institution.

The required qualification must have been obtained before the last date of application submission.

Age Limit

The candidate’s age should be:

  • Minimum Age: 18 Years
  • Maximum Age: 40 Years
  • Age Calculation Date: July 1, 2026

Age relaxation will be applicable to eligible reserved categories and other candidates as per Uttar Pradesh Government rules.

UPSSSC PET 2026 Exam Pattern

The PET 2026 examination will consist of 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions carrying a total of 100 marks.

Candidates will get 2 hours to complete the examination. A negative marking of ¼ mark for every incorrect answer will also be applicable.

The PET syllabus covers a wide range of subjects at the secondary/senior secondary level.

Major Topics Include:

Indian History:
Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic Culture, Buddhism, Jainism, Mauryan Dynasty, Gupta Dynasty, Mughal Empire, Marathas, British Rule and the First War of Independence.

Indian National Movement:
Freedom Movement, Swadeshi Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, revolutionary movements, Quit India Movement, Azad Hind Fauj and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Geography:
Physical geography, rivers, mountains, glaciers, forests, minerals, climate, political geography, population and migration.

Indian Economy:
Five-Year Plans, Green Revolution, banking reforms, economic reforms of 1991, GST and post-2014 economic reforms.

Sandhi, synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, idioms, proverbs, grammar and Hindi literature.

General English:
English grammar and questions based on unseen passages.

Reasoning:
Ranking, relationships, odd one out, coding-decoding, calendar, clock, cause and effect, statements and conclusions.

Current Affairs & General Awareness:
National and international current affairs, neighbouring countries, states and capitals, Parliament, important days, world organizations, sports, awards, books and authors, environment and research organizations.

UPSSSC PET 2026 Score Validity

An important feature of PET 2026 is that the PET score will remain valid for three years from the date on which the result is declared or uploaded by the Commission.

Candidates holding more than one valid PET score may use the highest valid normalized score while applying for the relevant Main Examination, subject to the applicable rules.
